This Glenn Miller and his Orchestra made this record in 1939 with featured soloists Dale McMikle (trumpet), and Tex Beneke (tenor sax).

The writers credit for "Glen Island Special" goes to American jazz guitarist, trombonist, composer and musical arranger Eddie Durham, best known for his work with Cab Calloway, Willie Bryant, Glenn Miller, Jimmie Lunceford, and Count Basie.

Eddie Durham was the co-composer of the Count Basie tune "Topsy" along with Edgar Battle as well as being the arranger for Glenn Miller's "In the Mood."

Eddie is also credited for creating the world's first electric guitar solo with a Gibson ES-150 guitar in 1938.
