Kicking off her professional her with the Paul Whiteman band from 1929-1933 Mildred Bailey but left over salary disputes.
By the mid-'30s she started singing accompanied by her vibraphonist husband Red Norvo and they soon earned the nicknames "Mr. and Mrs. Swing".
