Henry Red Allen's band are featured in a Soundie short filmed in New York City on January 1, 1946 performing a number titled "The Crawl."
Personnel:
Red Allen, trumpet
Jay C. Higginbotham,
Don Stovall, alto sax
Bill Thompson, piano
Benny Moten, bass
Alvin Burroughs, drums
Johni Weaver, dancer
J. C. Higginbotham was a perfect musical match with Red Allen, with a highly compatible style he was able to mirror the trumpeter's tone perfectly.
The duo first began playing together during the late '20s as members of the "Luis Russell Orchestra" and continued to collaborate until Red Allen's death in 1967.
